Tess Adkins (KC 1972)
At home, Cambridge

Accompanying the inaugural cohort of women students in 1972 were a small number of female Fellows, including Geographer Tess Adkins. In 1981, Tess became the first woman to be appointed as Senior Tutor in any of the previously all-male Colleges. Her fourteen-year term saw the appointment of both a Women’s Tutor and Equal Opportunities Officer, and the production of the landmark Spurling Report into gender equality in higher education.
